We have celebrated some wonderful successes over the last few months:
Our 2nd Annual Fundraiser and Banquet sponsored by Clif Bar, Magic Valley Gear Exchange, Miller Coors, Gemstone Climbing Center, Addidas Terrex, Patagonia, Pizza Pie Cafe, and other local sponsors, was a huge success! We enjoyed as night of raffles, door prizes, a live auction, dinner, and dancing. The best part is we raised $6,000 to develop the climber assistance program and suss this year's projects and goals.
Rebolting Project was started and completed at Skunk Cave and Hidden Cliff. Old plated steel hardware was removed and stainless steel hardware set in its place, extending the life of the bolt placements from its original 10-20 years to 50 years.
We said goodbye to our faithful hard-working board member Mike Young, as his board term ended this season.
Mike Young Joined us in 2015, and his charismatic personality has been benefiting the community since. His tireless efforts are the catalyst in re-establishing lost climbing access in our area. He worked tirelessly to negotiate and procure a multi-million dollar insurance policy that will be the definitive tool in re-opening Southern Idaho's forbidden crags.
"My passion comes from giving back to a community of climbers that has given so much to me. Everywhere I have gone, I have found people who are so ready to share what they love about the sport. I think that Southern Idaho is on the verge of a climbing renaissance, and we're well positioned to cultivate a vibrant community of climbers that has given so much to me. I hope to bring energy and enthusiasm to the Southern Idaho Climbing Coalition as we build an organization that can support that community."
Our First SICC BBQ of the year was held at Dierkes Lake. We are all looking forward to getting to rub elbows with the local climbing community in future shin-digs. We loved hearing ideas on the directions the coalition should take from it's members.
